Captured methane gas from a landfill in Christian County will generate 3.2 megawatts of electricity - enough to power 2,500 homes. Electricity from the power plant will go into a power grid operated by St. Louis-based Ameren.

“Heat from the generators will be diverted into a new greenhouse operation being built by Buckley Growers, a wholesale florist currently based in Springfield. The four-acre greenhouse and 20,000-square foot operations building may be the first in the nation to use waste heat from gas-to-energy generators,” according to an article in FarmWeek.
