What is the green community interested in?
Since its inception, the Foresight Design Initiative has held many events focused on local environmental and sustainability-related issues, including panel discussions, presentations, tours and design charets. The green community is mostly interested in energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy – such as wind, solar and biomass energy – municipal recycling, eco printing practices, storm water management, green economics, affordable green homes, eco-sensitive office practices, reducing food packaging waste, organic food and urban agriculture, local green businesses, sustainable design for graphic responsibilities, green business and design education, energy-efficiency programs, “green collar jobs,” energy policy and energy bills. The more than 50 events hosted by Foresight have led to “active collaborations, increased integration of sustainability into business practices, more sustainable professional and consumer behavior, and the empowerment of community members to affect change,” according to the group’s Web site.
Foresight also works closely with the City of Chicago’s Department of the Environment, International O2 Network, the Illinois Environmental Council and the Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund.
